A Parliamentary Committee has urged Indian Railways to conduct regular surveys of passenger satisfaction and evaluate the impact of redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The scheme aims to transform more than 1,300 railway stations into modern transit hubs, and the committee wants to ensure that upgrades truly improve the passenger experience.
Background
Launched in 2022, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) is a long‑term initiative to redevelop railway stations across India in a phased manner. Rather than focusing solely on architectural facades, the scheme envisions stations as integrated transport hubs with improved facilities, multimodal connectivity and sustainable designs. Master plans are drawn up for each station, and projects are executed according to local needs and projected growth.
The Ministry of Railways has identified more than 1,300 stations for transformation under ABSS. These include stations in metropolitan areas, state capitals and tier‑II and tier‑III cities.
