Why in news?

On 14 October 2025, the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, unveiled a new Live Cases Dashboard for the government’s Legal Information Management and Briefing System (LIMBS). This dashboard provides real‑time visualisation of court cases and upcoming hearings involving the Union of India, improving coordination among ministries and advocates.

Background

LIMBS is a web‑based platform launched in 2016 to monitor litigation involving the Union government. It centralises data from the Supreme Court to lower courts, enabling ministries to track progress and make informed decisions. An upgraded version appeared in January 2020. As of October 2025, LIMBS contained more than 7.23 lakh live cases, with 13,175 ministry users and 18,458 advocates updating information regularly. The new dashboard builds on this database to provide a dynamic view of upcoming hearings and critical matters.

Conclusion

The Live Cases Dashboard is a step toward smarter governance. By digitising and democratising access to litigation data, it empowers ministries to respond promptly, reduces duplication of effort and could ultimately lower the government’s legal bill. Its success will depend on timely data updates, trained users and continuous improvement of the platform.
