Why in news?
The Union Finance Minister launched PRARAMBH 2026 (Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat) to familiarise citizens with the new Income Tax Act 2025, which comes into effect on 1 April 2026. The campaign aims to build trust in the tax system and help taxpayers understand the upcoming law.
Background
The Income Tax Act 2025 replaces the existing 1961 legislation. To ensure a smooth transition, the government designed PRARAMBH 2026 as an outreach initiative spanning print, television, radio, outdoor advertising and digital platforms. The campaign draws inspiration from the principle Nagrik Devo Bhava, treating taxpayers as honoured citizens whose compliance supports nation‑building.
Key components
- Comprehensive outreach: The initiative provides multilingual brochures, guidance notes, tutorial videos and FAQs. A public engagement programme on the MyGov portal includes quizzes and interactive sessions to strengthen awareness.
- Multilingual approach: Information is available in Hindi, English and 10 regional languages, ensuring that taxpayers across India can understand the new provisions.
- AI‑driven support: The campaign introduces Kar Saathi, an AI‑powered chatbot that answers queries about the new tax law, rules and procedures.
- Income Tax Website 2.0: The revamped portal offers improved navigation, intuitive design and faster service delivery. It will guide users through filing returns, accessing refunds and resolving issues under the new Act.
- Citizen‑centric philosophy: PRARAMBH 2026 emphasises a trust‑based tax administration. By building awareness and simplifying processes, the government hopes to encourage voluntary compliance and reduce disputes.
Conclusion
PRARAMBH 2026 signals the government’s commitment to transparent and efficient tax reform. By educating citizens ahead of the law’s implementation, the campaign seeks to demystify taxation, improve taxpayer services and foster a culture of trust and responsibility.
