Why in news?
The government inaugurated a new Cyber Skill Centre in July 2025 as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). The centre aims to train youth in cyber security skills and create a workforce capable of protecting digital infrastructure.
Objectives
- Provide training in network security, ethical hacking, digital forensics and cyber law.
- Create employment opportunities for young people by equipping them with industry‑relevant skills.
- Strengthen India’s resilience against cyber threats such as phishing, ransomware and data breaches.
Key features
- Curriculum: Developed in consultation with industry experts and includes practical labs.
- Collaborations: Ties with technology companies and universities for internships and placements.
- Scale: The programme targets training at least 25,000 candidates over the next three years.
Significance
As India’s digital economy grows, the demand for cyber security professionals is rising. By integrating cyber skills into its flagship skilling programme, the government hopes to reduce unemployment and secure critical systems. Participants will be better prepared to serve in government agencies, defence forces, banks and private firms.
