Why in news?

On 29 June 2026 the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will roll out e‑Sushrut@Clinic, a cloud‑based software platform for small clinics. The system aims to simplify clinic management and integrate private practitioners into the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

Background

e‑Sushrut was originally a Hospital Management Information System developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C‑DAC) for government hospitals. The new “@Clinic” version is a lightweight variant tailored to small clinics and diagnostic centres. It supports electronic health records (EHR) and digital health identities under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.

Key features

  • Provides modules for patient registration, appointment scheduling, clinical notes, pharmacy, diagnostics and billing. Data can be entered via mobile devices, including through speech-to-text.
  • Works on a subscription model. The government offers the service for around ₹499 per month for a clinic with five users, with subsidised rates for smaller practices.
  • Integrates with the Health Professional Registry and generates Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) numbers for patients. This ensures that medical records follow patients across healthcare providers.
  • Supports offline operation with periodic synchronisation to the cloud, which is useful in areas with poor connectivity.
  • Includes teleconsultation, digital prescriptions and analytics dashboards to help practitioners manage workload and finances.

Conclusion

e‑Sushrut@Clinic will help digitise India’s fragmented clinic sector by providing an affordable, plug‑and‑play solution. By linking clinics to the national digital health ecosystem, it promises better continuity of care and easier access to government schemes such as the Ayushman Bharat insurance programme.
