Finland is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It shares borders with Sweden, Norway and Russia and faces the Baltic Sea to the south and west. Known for its high standard of living, education and respect for nature, Finland has also become a leader in technology and innovation. Like India, it values democracy and sustainable development, making the two countries natural partners.

  • Geography: Finland is often called the “land of a thousand lakes” because it has about 188,000 lakes formed by glaciers during the last Ice Age. More than 70 percent of the country is covered by forests.
  • Climate: Winters are long and cold, especially in the northern Lapland region, while summers are short and mild. In the far north the sun does not set at all for several weeks in summer, a phenomenon called the Midnight Sun.

The summit in New Delhi showcased Finland’s commitment to collaborating with India in cutting‑edge technologies. Prime Minister Orpo noted that Finland and India share a human‑centric vision for the future, emphasising safety and sustainability in artificial intelligence. Finland has expertise in areas like quantum computing and 6G communications, while India has a large pool of skilled engineers and a growing digital economy. Together, the two nations aim to develop ethical AI applications, joint space missions and talent exchange programmes. Such cooperation can help both countries achieve sustainable and inclusive growth.
