Salary matters when you choose a career. So do the work, responsibilities and restrictions that come with it. Civil service can offer meaningful public work, but it does not solve every problem in life. Do not compare the difficulties of your present job with only the attractive parts of another career.
Basic pay is only part of the salary
The IAS Pay Rules, 2016 give the following basic-pay figures. They are pay-matrix references, not estimates of take-home pay.

These are not automatic milestones for every officer. Eligibility, selection and appointment to a post matter. A table of senior salaries should not be read as a guaranteed career path.
Why take-home pay varies
Take-home pay is basic pay plus admissible allowances, minus deductions. Dearness allowance, housing arrangements, posting and deductions can change the amount. A single figure cannot accurately describe every officer’s monthly salary.
For a particular posting, check the applicable allowance orders and a relevant salary statement. Use the rates in force for that period. Do not plan your finances around a future salary estimate presented as a fixed amount.
Understand official facilities in their context
Do not assume every posting comes with the same residence, vehicle, staff or security. Check the rules for the post and the facilities actually allotted. These support official responsibilities; they should not be presented as a standard package of personal luxuries.
Study leave also has conditions. The All India Services (Study Leave) Regulations require approval. They do not promise every officer an automatically funded course at a foreign university.
Compare the whole career
