The National Test House marked its 115th Foundation Day at Jakkuru in Bengaluru. A new Bengaluru building and several specialised testing facilities were inaugurated. The institution also launched its NTH Suvidha mobile application. The expansion aims to bring recognised testing closer to industry, smaller firms and consumers.
What was inaugurated
Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi opened the new Bengaluru building on 29 August. Other facilities across the national network were inaugurated virtually. They include a coal testing facility in Kolkata. Chennai received a solar water heater testing facility.
Jaipur received a dedicated utensils testing facility. A new laboratory opened at Deendayal Hastkala Sankul in Varanasi. The NTH Suvidha application supports digital access to reports and services. These additions cover energy, household products, crafts and industrial needs.

History of the institution
The National Test House, or NTH, began in Calcutta in 1912. It was then called the Government Test House. The Railway Board created it to test locally made stores for railway use. Import substitution was an important early purpose.

What expansion should achieve
