Why in news?
On 3 June 2026 the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched the “Navachar Mantra” initiative to support grassroots innovators and early‑stage entrepreneurs. The programme, implemented by the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) with IIT Delhi’s Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer as a technical partner, invites applications until 5 July 2026.
Background
India has witnessed rapid growth in its startup ecosystem, yet many innovators in smaller towns struggle to access mentoring, funding and policy support. Navachar Mantra builds on initiatives such as Start‑up India, Atal Innovation Mission and the Skill India mission to create an inclusive pipeline for ideas from rural and urban regions. The programme focuses on sectors like agritech, health‑tech, ed‑tech, climate sustainability, rural commerce and solutions that empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Programme structure and benefits
- Eligibility: Individuals or teams aged 18–45 years with a prototype or working model addressing a real‑world problem can apply. Special emphasis is placed on innovators from tier‑2 and tier‑3 towns.
- Multi‑stage evaluation: Applications will undergo screening and mentoring at the state and national levels. Shortlisted candidates will receive guidance on design thinking, business planning and regulatory approvals.
- Mentorship and exposure: Innovators will be connected to investors, industry mentors, policymakers and fellow entrepreneurs. They will participate in boot camps, workshops and exposure visits to successful enterprises.
- Showcase and awards: Finalists will present their innovations at a national showcase, where they may receive incubation support, seed funding and opportunities to pilot solutions through government programmes.
- Long‑term ecosystem: Navachar Mantra seeks to create a sustained ecosystem by establishing innovation hubs, promoting intellectual property awareness and encouraging collaborations between academia and industry.
Conclusion
Navachar Mantra reflects India’s focus on turning grassroots creativity into viable enterprises. By providing mentorship, exposure and financial support, the initiative aims to unlock innovative solutions to local challenges and contribute to the goal of a developed and self‑reliant India by 2047.
