Why in news?
In June 2025 the Ministry of Railways launched RailOne, a mobile application that integrates various railway services in a single platform. The app was developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), a railway IT public sector unit.
Key features
- Unified services: The app offers unreserved ticket booking (UTS), platform tickets, reserved ticket booking (IRCTC), live train tracking, train enquiries, grievance redressal, e‑catering, porter booking and last‑mile taxi services. It also provides coach‑position information and train running status.
- Ticket benefits: Users who pay via the app’s R‑Wallet receive a 3 percent discount on unreserved and platform tickets. Seat‑category selection is available during booking.
- Single sign‑on: Customers can log in using mPIN or biometric authentication. RailOne unifies credentials across UTS, Rail Connect and IRCTC, simplifying access and enhancing security.
- Device‑efficient: By integrating services into one app, it reduces the need for multiple railway applications.
- Digital wallet: The app includes an e‑wallet, enabling cashless transactions and secure storage of travel credits.
- Additional features: RailOne offers hotel suggestions and tourist information to assist passengers in planning their trips.
- Future upgrades: An upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) slated for December 2025 will support higher capacity, seat‑selection options and dynamic fares.
