Why in news? At the Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Sammelan on 29 June 2026, the Ministry of Rural Development unveiled the SHE‑LEAPS platform (Self‑Help Entrepreneur‑Livelihoods and Enterprise Application for Prosperity and Sustainability). The digital platform aims to strengthen women‑led enterprises and advance the government’s Lakhpati Didi mission.
Background
India’s Self‑Help Group (SHG) movement has mobilised millions of rural women, providing access to credit and livelihoods. To transform these groups into successful enterprises, the government sought a common digital tool to monitor progress and connect them with markets. The Digital India Corporation designed a mobile application under the LokOS platform to meet this need.
Main objectives
- Enterprise creation and support: SHE‑LEAPS helps SHG members start and expand businesses by providing templates for business plans, linking them to financial services and tracking income and expenditure【586847567634966†L105-L146】.
- Monitoring and data: The platform captures real‑time operational data across farm and non‑farm sectors. Officials can monitor the performance of enterprises and identify areas needing intervention【586847567634966†L150-L177】.
- Market integration: By mapping products and buyers, the system connects rural producers with formal value chains, facilitating bulk orders and fair prices.
- Lakhpati Didi mission: SHE‑LEAPS supports the government’s goal of enabling millions of rural women to earn at least ₹1 lakh annually by 2030. The portal’s dashboard tracks the income of SHG households and flags when members cross the ₹1 lakh threshold【586847567634966†L105-L146】.
- Nationwide rollout: The platform will operate in 34 States and Union Territories. It supports both State Rural Livelihood Missions and district‑level programmes, ensuring uniform data and governance【586847567634966†L150-L177】.
Conclusion
SHE‑LEAPS brings digital tools to the grassroots of rural India. By offering enterprise guidance, real‑time monitoring and market linkages, it seeks to transform SHG members into successful entrepreneurs. Its success will depend on training, reliable internet access and continued support from government and private partners.
