Why in news?
The ministries of Health & Family Welfare and Women & Child Development launched a nationwide campaign called “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” (Healthy Woman, Empowered Family) to promote early detection of non‑communicable diseases and improve nutrition among women and children. The campaign runs from 17 September to 2 October 2025.
Aims
- Screen women for non‑communicable diseases (diabetes, hypertension), common cancers (breast, cervical) and anaemia.
- Provide nutrition counselling and awareness on diet diversity, especially for adolescent girls and pregnant women.
- Deliver maternal and child health services, including antenatal check‑ups, immunisation and family planning.
- Integrate with Poshan Maah (Nutrition Month) activities to emphasise healthy eating.
Key features
- Over one lakh health camps at the village and block level across all districts.
- Services from specialists such as gynaecologists, oncologists and nutritionists.
- Use of mobile medical units and digital tools for screening and data recording.
- Community mobilisation through local self‑help groups, Anganwadi workers and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).
Significance
Women’s health is often neglected due to socio‑cultural barriers. Early detection of diseases reduces treatment costs and improves outcomes. The campaign also aims to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition by focusing on adolescent girls and mothers.
