Why in news?
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries announced that World Food India 2025 will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi in November 2025. The event aims to showcase India’s food processing sector and attract global investment.
Background
World Food India was first held in 2017 and revived in later years as part of the government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. The exposition serves as a platform for farmers, processors, retailers, technology providers and investors from across the globe to network and sign deals.
Highlights of the 2025 edition
- Global Food Regulators Summit: Regulators will discuss harmonising standards, food safety and traceability, enabling smoother trade.
- India International Seafood Show: A separate pavilion will promote India’s fisheries and aquaculture sector, highlighting opportunities for exports.
- Startup zone: Young entrepreneurs will display innovations in processing, packaging and food waste reduction.
- Investment forums: Structured B2B meetings aim to secure agreements for processing plants, cold chains and logistics.
- Focus on sustainability: Sessions will highlight plant‑based proteins, millets, organic farming and circular economy practices.
Significance
India is the world’s second‑largest producer of fruits and vegetables but processes only a small fraction domestically. World Food India 2025 seeks to bridge this gap by attracting technology and capital, improving farmer incomes and reducing post‑harvest losses. The event also positions India as a food basket for the world and underscores its commitment to sustainable agriculture.
