Why in news?
On 7 July 2026 Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto awarded the “Bintang Adipurna of the Republic of Indonesia” to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ceremony recognised his role in strengthening bilateral ties and promoting regional cooperation.
Background
The Bintang Republik Indonesia (Star of the Republic of Indonesia) is the highest national order instituted in 1959. The order has five classes; the Adipurna class is the most prestigious and can be awarded to heads of state or other dignitaries for exceptional service to Indonesia’s unity and prosperity. The President of Indonesia acts as the Grand Master of the order, and recipients wear a sash and a breast star.

- Recognition of partnership: Officials noted that India and Indonesia have deepened collaboration in defence, maritime security, trade and cultural exchange. Under Prime Minister Modi, India supported Indonesia’s vision of a free and open Indo‑Pacific.
