About the mountain
Mount Elbrus is a dormant stratovolcano and the highest peak in Europe. Standing at 5,642 metres, it forms part of the Caucasus Mountains in southern Russia near the border with Georgia. The mountain has two summits and is covered by glaciers that feed rivers such as the Kuban and the Terek. Elbrus is one of the Seven Summits — the highest peaks on each continent — making it a coveted mountaineering goal.
