Why in news?
The 18th edition of the International Earth Science Olympiad was held in August 2025. A team of Indian school students participated and won several medals, drawing attention to the growing interest in geosciences among Indian youth.
About IESO
IESO is an annual competition for high school students aged 13–18. It tests knowledge in geology, hydrology, meteorology, astronomy and environmental science. The event includes written tests, practical field exercises and an “International Team Field Investigation” where students from different countries work together.

- The Olympiad was hosted in a hybrid format, with online theoretical exams and on‑site field investigations conducted in participating countries.
