Why in news?
NITI Aayog launched the “Frontier 50 Initiative” to deploy cutting‑edge technologies across 50 aspirational districts and blocks. The programme aims to demonstrate how frontier technologies can improve public services and citizen well‑being.
Objectives
- Accelerate adoption of technologies like artificial intelligence, drones, Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain in government programmes.
- Identify and replicate successful use cases in sectors such as agriculture, health, education and urban governance.
- Bridge digital divides by ensuring that remote and underserved districts benefit from innovations.
Key features
- Pilot projects: Fifty districts or blocks will be selected for implementation of specific technology‑based solutions.
- Public‑private collaboration: Partnerships with start‑ups, industry and academia to provide expertise and funding.
- Capacity building: Training for local administrators and frontline workers to operate and maintain new technologies.
