Why in news?
The Ministry of Women and Child Development launched the PANKHUDI portal on 8 January 2026. The digital platform serves as a single window for coordinating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions and partnerships aimed at improving the lives of women and children.
Background
India’s government has prioritised the welfare, protection and empowerment of women and children through initiatives such as Mission Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti. However, contributions from individuals, corporations and NGOs are often fragmented. The PANKHUDI portal — inspired by the vision of technology acting as a bridge between government and citizens — brings all stakeholders together on a transparent digital platform.
How the portal works
- Single‑window interface: Individuals, non‑resident Indians, NGOs, CSR contributors, corporate entities and government agencies can register, identify priority initiatives and submit proposals through the portal.
- Thematic focus: Contributions are channelled to areas including nutrition, health, early childhood care and education, child protection and rehabilitation, and women’s safety and empowerment.
- Transparency and accountability: All donations are accepted via non‑cash modes. The portal provides clear approval workflows, enabling contributors to track the status of their projects.
- Integration with flagship missions: PANKHUDI supports and strengthens existing schemes such as Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti by directing resources where they are most needed.
- Improving services: By enhancing convergence across stakeholders, the portal seeks to upgrade the infrastructure and services of over 14 lakh Anganwadi centres, around 5,000 child care institutions, 800 One Stop Centres and more than 400 Shakti Sadan homes.
Significance
- Ease of doing CSR: Businesses and individuals can contribute without navigating multiple channels, encouraging greater participation in social welfare.
- People’s participation: The portal embodies the principle of Jan Bhagidari by enabling citizens to engage directly in development initiatives.
- Enhanced impact: Streamlined coordination ensures that resources reach beneficiaries efficiently, reducing duplication and improving outcomes.
Conclusion
PANKHUDI harnesses digital technology to build partnerships for women’s and children’s welfare. By unifying CSR efforts and promoting transparency, it promises to make social development more inclusive and outcome‑oriented.
