The Ministry of Women and Child Development has invited nominations for the 2026 Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar. The national award honours children who show exceptional achievements in various fields. Nominations are open until 31 July 2026 on the National Awards Portal.
Background
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is the highest civilian honour for Indian children aged 5 to 18 years. It was created by enriching and combining previous awards such as the National Child Bravery Award and the Bal Kalyan Puraskar. The award is presented by the President of India each year on 26 December (Veer Bal Diwas) and recognises young achievers whose acts or innovations inspire society.
Categories and eligibility
- Fields recognised. Awards are given in Bravery, Social Service, Environment, Sports, Art & Culture and Science & Technology. Children can apply through self‑nomination or be nominated by individuals or institutions.
- Age and citizenship. Applicants must be Indian citizens residing in India and aged between 5 and 18 years as on 31 July 2026.
- Achievement window. Acts of bravery or exceptional achievements must have occurred within two years of the last date for nominations.
- Limit on awards. Up to 25 children are honoured each year. Each award includes a medal, a certificate and a citation booklet.
Selection process
- Nominations. Nominations are accepted online from 1 April to 31 July through the Rashtriya Puraskar portal. The nomination is open to all, including self‑nomination.
- Screening. A committee constituted by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, comprising experts from relevant fields and chaired by the Secretary of the ministry, reviews all nominations.
- Final decision. The committee recommends names to the government, and the awards are announced on Veer Bal Diwas.
Significance
The PMRBP celebrates courage, talent and service among young Indians. By recognising children’s achievements, the government hopes to encourage others to pursue excellence and serve society. Opening nominations to the public and allowing self‑nomination makes the process inclusive and transparent.
