The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) launched the Sanchar Mitra programme to boost digital literacy and cyber awareness in rural India.
Key features
- Volunteer network: Local youth are trained as “Sanchar Mitra” volunteers to educate citizens on using basic mobile services, UPI payments and grievance redressal portals.
- Training modules: Volunteers receive training in smartphone usage, online safety, government e‑services and ethical internet practices.
- Incentives: Small stipends, certificates and recognition encourage sustained participation of volunteers.
